Progress notes play a vital role in supporting the framework of quality aged care and disability support. They are documents written by care staff, usually during or at the end of a shift, and form an essential part of the individual Client File. Progress notes are brief narrative entries that record both positive and negative events relating to the person.

This course has been primarily developed to support those staff working in the aged and community care industries, however, the information is also relevant to other people working in disability support, health, children and social services, and related industries.

Don’t be put off by the number of topics, most of the videos are only a few minutes long followed by a few basic questions that help you monitor your understanding of the content. The course is designed so that you can log in and complete a topic even if you only have a few minutes spare in your day.

The course consists of 20 videos with a total runtime of approximately 2 hours.

Upon completing this course, you should be able to:

  1. identify reasons for maintaining accurate progress notes
  2. demonstrate the basics of writing a professional progress note
  3. identify common mistakes in progress notes so you can avoid them
  4. complete progress notes according to your organisation’s policies and procedures
  5. understand and be able to ensure the confidentiality and security of client records
